Review

The son of 1996 Premiership winner Robert, Bailey Scott was drafted to North Melbourne as a father-son selection with pick 49 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft.

Scott impressed from the outset, with his professionalism and preparation standing out during the pre-season period.

The number 30’s form saw him involved in the JLT Series, and he earned selection for the Round 1 trip to Optus Stadium to face Fremantle.

Although the game was a disaster for the Roos, as they went down by 82 points, Scott showed exceptional maturity and was arguably his team’s best player, collecting 21 disposals and kicking 2 goals.

Scott’s strong performance earned him the Round 1 NAB Rising Star nomination.

Scott was a little quieter in the weeks following, and his season ended when he fractured a bone in his foot in the VFL.

The early signs and his professional persona suggest the future is bright for Scott.

What the coach said

"He's a great role model for other young players because he's a great preparer. He's a thorough professional.

"(The fans) remember Robert Scott, he's a premiership player for North, and (Bailey)'s got a lot of similar attributes in terms of his neat ball use and running capability and his ability to get across the ground - Brad Scott

What he said

"In the end it was really just another game of football, that's how I approached it, and it allowed me to settle and focus on my role to play for the team.

"It was good to see that I was capable of playing at that level and could play my role for the team. Considering the result, that was the only upside for me. The coaches seemed happy with the way I played my role but there's obviously a bit for everyone to work on.

"They were rapt to see me out there. Dad was happy for me but, coming from a football background, he understands the team side of things and he feels disappointment similar to someone who's involved with the club.”
