Lynch pins hopes on AFL
New North player Malcolm Lynch says he can’t wait to line up against his old VFL side Port Melbourne on Saturday and eventually play AFL again.
While he acknowledges it might be a little strange at the beginning matching up against former teammates, the rookie wants to show that he belongs on an AFL list.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge, it’s going to be interesting. It can’t come quick enough,” Lynch told kangaroos.com.au during training at Aegis Park.
“It might be a bit weird, I can’t deny that. It will be a good opportunity for me to step up.”
Lynch was a vital part of Port’s premiership side last year but says there’s been a significant turnover of players.
“There are quite a few guys that have left and I know there are a few young guys that are trying to step up. It will be interesting but I’ve just got to make sure I can show what I can provide for Werribee.”
Nathan Grima has also been named in the Tigers’ side and will want to take a leap forward in his recovery from a knee injury while Sam Gibson will be looking to impress in order to earn a rookie promotion this season.
Cam Pedersen also missed out on getting a spot in the Kangaroos’ side to play Essendon and has been put in the forward line along with Ben McKinley, Ben Speight and Ben Warren.
Brad Mangan and Will Sierakowski will hold up the fort down back and it’s yet to be seen if Levi Greenwood will play or be kept fresh after being named as an emergency for the AFL.
On Sunday draftee Brad McKenzie will have another opportunity to display his talent when North Ballarat takes on Sandringham. Playing at Eureka Stadium the Roosters have been bolstered by the return of home-town hero Cam Richardson who has struggled through the off-season a hip injury.
Cam and Luke Delaney will run a tag team in defense while Cruize Garlett will stay at the feet of young ruckman Ben Mabon for first use out of the middle and at stoppages.
Aaron Black, Gavin Urquhart and Max Warren round out North Melbourne’s other representatives.
