Carlton has moved to distance itself from making any approach to Sydney Swan Tom Mitchell, but has stated an interested in Greater Western Sydney youngster Kristian Jaksch and Western Bulldog Liam Jones.

There has been speculation surrounding the future of Mitchell.

The prolific ball-winner played just six matches with the Swans this season after 14 in 2013. The 21-year-old gathered 29 disposals in round 23 against Richmond but was left out of all three finals.

Mitchell has been linked to the Blues, where his father Barry played 38 matches after 170 with the Sydney Swans and 13 with Collingwood.

But Carlton's football operations manager Andrew McKay confirmed to NAB AFL Trade Radio on Monday that the Blues were not interested in poaching Mitchell.

"I've said to Tom's management and also the Sydney Swans over the last couple of weeks that we won't be approaching Tom to get his services," McKay said.

"The only way we would is if he told Sydney that he wanted to come back to Melbourne to play football. We won't be actively seeking to pull him out of the Sydney Swans."

McKay did confirm that the Blues were interested in Jaksch and Jones, particularly after Jarrad Waite announced he was keen to leave the Blues.

"Certainly we're definitely looking at Kristian if he decides that he's coming home," McKay said.

"Obviously he plays in a similar role that Jarrad Waite has. So we'd be keen on pursuing that if and when that arises."

Jaksch has played just seven AFL games with the Giants over two seasons and the 19-year-old has expressed an interest in returning home.

Jones is also keen to move on from the Bulldogs after 66 matches over five seasons and McKay said he is the type of player the Blues would be keen to recruit.

"We'd be interested in a player like Liam, definitely," McKay said.

"He's a good young player and obviously plays the centre-half forward/full forward position and has got a bit a bounce so, yeah, we'd be interested in him."

The Blues will be in a position to do some trades given they have already stated that Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett are both on the table. McKay said the Blues had already spoken to several clubs about doing deals for the troubled pair.

"We've got a bit of interest, which is good," McKay said.

"We're expecting to trade them over the next couple of weeks."

McKay confirmed the Blues are not in the race to sign restricted free agent Shaun Higgins.
