The statistics don’t tell the full story, but Robbie Tarrant put his name forward in a big way on Saturday following a stellar performance for Werribee at the MCG.

He finished with five marks against West Perth in the Foxtel Cup, a figure not considered high by his standards, but in difficult conditions it had a huge impact on the result. The 23 year-old ‘brought smaller players into the game’ according to North Development Coach John Lamont, and also finished with 14 touches and two goals.

Ben McKinley was another prominent forward with two goals, sticking to the task despite struggling to get off his opponent for much of the day.

The Tigers gained the ascendency in the third term after an even first half, and a lift in the middle from rookie Majak Daw proved important. He finished with 14 possessions and 19 hit-outs, while midfielder Sam Gibson capped a workmanlike effort (13 disposals, three tackles) with a brilliant goal from the pocket in the dying stages of the match.

Also influential was Will Sierakowski who used the ball well in the wet. The former Hawk gathered 14 disposals, while Ben Speight (10 possessions) and Malcolm Lynch (nine touches) were in and out of the game.

Down back, Scott McMahon continued his comeback from a virus and did enough to suggest he could be in the mix for an AFL recall, while Ayden Kennedy battled all day and was given special praise by Lamont for his continued improvement. Brad Mangan was also solid and moved the ball out of defence well (five rebound 50’s).

The Tigers will now play Morningside in the semi-finals of the Foxtel Cup on July 7.
