The season hasn’t even started, but the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have already enjoyed unprecedented support.
Coach Scott Gowans spoke glowingly of the Roos’ supporter base on Thursday night at the club’s Season Launch, revealing some exciting news.
“I’m really pleased to announce that we’ve surpassed our AFLW membership of last year already, which is an amazing effort,” he said.
North’s membership tally sat at 1,142 as of Wednesday, beating last year’s total before a ball is even bounced.
“It’s a commitment from you guys (our members) to us that it means a lot to you. We hold that dearly,” Gowans said.
“The players and I speak about it all the time; we are only custodians of this club that you will support all your lives.”
North will hold an open training session on Friday night at 6pm, ahead of its season-opener on Saturday, against Melbourne at Casey Fields at 3.10pm.
“It’s amazing to turn up to training and the supporters are there,” Gowans added.
“Even if the players don’t get to say hello because they are out there training, they always notice when the supporters are there, and it makes a big difference.”
