ET: Essendon's morale dive
Matthew Lloyd says one of the Essendon players identified is baffled as to why he was outed.
Lloyd, speaking on 3AWβs Sports Today program, said the player told him, "I don't know how I've ended up in the report... [because] I'm actually unsure what I took."
Lloyd said other named Bombers said they are "disenchanted with the game" and the politics surrounding the doping saga, and have "lost their enthusiasm" for playing.
But those comments seem at odds with stand-in coach Mark Thompsonβs thoughts on player morale.
''We've got a group of young players who are really enjoying themselves at training,'' Thompson said at the club's season launch.
''If you have noticed anything tonight, you will have noticed that the players are enjoying life.
''And that's important to me. It's got to be in an environment where you enjoy coming to work. You always get better results.
''It will be a good ride. Premiership this year? Who knows, I'm not going to say we can't win it. We just want consistent performance.''
Chairman Paul Little meanwhile upped his attack on the Herald Sun, saying he is disgusted and sickened 14 current and former Bombers players were named publicly.
"I can't help but find words other than disgraceful and total disgust for what the Herald Sun printed in their Sunday newspaper about our players," Little said.
"It was unnecessary. It added no value to the investigation process and to intrude into the lives of individuals takes this whole investigation down to a new level.
"Personally, I feel sickened by it. I'm very, very upset about it."
"He's a driven man, he's back to his energised best," Little said.
