North Melbourne has strengthened its defensive stocks with the addition of experienced key position player, Josh Walker.
The 27-year-old played 11 games for Brisbane this season and crosses to Arden St on a new one year deal.
Moments after signing his contract at Arden St, Walker immediately joined the North playing group for training.
“We’re straight out on the track and apparently it’s a pretty solid session too from what I’ve heard so that’s exciting,” Walker told North Media.
“I was really excited to get down and have a look around and meet everyone. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them so far … Shaun Atley, I’m living with him at the moment so he’s looking after me and it’s been great to meet all of the coaching staff and the players.”
After his time with the Lions, Walker remained confident another opportunity would arise.
“I definitely thought I’d get another crack at it somewhere,” he said.
“I definitely feel like I still have a lot to offer so I suppose you’ve got to be optimistic. I always was hopeful that something would work out and was lucky enough; North were great about it and couldn’t be happier with how it’s worked out.”
A strong intercept marker standing 197cm, North believes Walker will slot into the backline seamlessly.
"I spent a lot of time down forward early in my career and pretty much just last year was the first sort of full year down back and it sort of worked … So I think that’s the aim going forward, I’ll start training with the defenders and hopefully slot in nicely there,” Walker said.
Walker was drafted to Geelong in 2013 before being traded to the Lions in 2015. He has played 85 games, initially as a forward.
