Tom Bell is now a Brisbane Lion after Carlton agreed to the midfielder's request for a trade home to Queensland.

Carlton received picks No.21 and 60 in the trade and gave pick No.41 to the Lions along with Bell.

Bell, 24, enjoyed a career-best season in 2015, playing all 22 games and finishing equal fourth in the Blues' best and fairest award this year.

A big-bodied midfielder, Bell is a strong inside ball-winner and the Lions will look to him to help cover Jack Redden's departure to West Coast.

Bell joined the Blues in the 2012 rookie draft and made his debut later that season in round 17 against the Western Bulldogs.

The Morningside product played 51 games and kicked 36 goals for Carlton.

Lions list manager Peter Schwab said he was pleased to get the deal done.

"We are delighted to get Tom and to bring him back home to Queensland," Schwab said.

"He had an excellent year in 2015 finishing fourth in the Carlton best and fairest and he’ll add plenty to our footy club.

"He's got experience, he's just starting to hit his peak years and he is a very strong and hard-running player."

Carlton's list manager Stephen Silvagni thanked Bell for his service to the Blues.

"Post-season, Tom made the football club aware that he would like to return home to Queensland to be closer to his family," Silvagni told the club website. 

"Although he is a contracted player, we saw an opportunity to work with Brisbane to facilitate a trade that could benefit both parties, and we’re really pleased with the outcome. 

"We wish Tom all the best for the future as he returns home."
