Brad Scott admits he’ll reserve judgement on the success of Jarrad Waite's recruitment until the midway point of the season, but is pleased by the former Blue’s early progress.
Waite arrived at Arden Street during the Free Agency period in October, and is making all posts a winner on the track.
“He’s trained really well through pre-season, but I’ve said only half-jokingly that how Jarrad is going at the moment is almost irrelevant,” Scott told RSN Racing & Sport.
“It’s important to us for his preparation, but externally and for people’s expectations, the proof will be how he’s going in about Round 10 onwards.
“The signs at the moment are encouraging. He’s resilient in the work that he’s been doing around injury prevention and trying to strengthen up some areas of his body that have left him down in the past.
"It’s been encouraging to this point, but he knows and I know that we’ve got a long way to go before we start talking about the move to acquire Jarrad Waite very positively.”

Fellow recruit Shaun Higgins is another player who has turned heads this pre-season, standing out in game-sense drills.
While he’s spent time through the midfield at training, the number 4 has the ability to play anywhere on the field.
“The buzz words around footy at the moment are things like versatility and flexibility, and being able to vary up a team,” Scott said.
“One of the things that really attracted us to Shaun is that versatility; the Bulldogs played him that bit behind the ball and he looked quite good at times there, but I think predominantly he’s more of a midfield/forward naturally.”
Nevertheless, the North Melbourne coach is open to all possibilities.
“He’s a fairly creative player when you play him there (midfield/forward), but a bit like Shaun Atley he’ll play where the team best needs him.”
The Roos’ new recruits are set to don the royal blue and white for the first time on March 1 against Adelaide in Port Lincoln.
