Thanks to one North member, the Kangaroos’ message is spanning the globe.
John Williams, a long-time member travels each year from Eltham, Victoria to Mozambique, Africa to visit his World Vision sponsor child Pedrito and spread the message about Australian Rules Football.
Packing his luggage with merchandise, Williams paints the town royal blue and white, handing out North shirts in the community.
“The main event was the football match (named the Mr John Flying Kangaroo Cup) and I presented the winning team with the cup,” Williams told NMFC.com.au with pride.
“The whole school participated in the function and it was full on. The headmaster told the students that the cup is to be a yearly event and it is going to get bigger and better every year. It was so much fun and resulted in a lot of laughter.”
Williams’ final stop on his trip was to Ethiopia to spread more joy and North gear. The colours and branding on the footballs, T-shirts and water bottles might not mean much to the kids yet, but they are gifts they’ll treasure forever.
