Skilful left-footer Brad McKenzie will have another chance to prove himself in 2016, after putting pen to paper on new one-year deal.

McKenzie had an impressive second half of the year, improving his form at VFL level, before being rewarded with a senior call-up in Round 23.

The former first-round draft selection made the most of his opportunity, finishing with 18 disposals as one of the Roos’ best against Richmond.

Assistant coach Jarred Moore praised McKenzie’s turnaround.

“By his own admission he struggled for the first few rounds. After sitting down and working everything out he knuckled down and played some really good footy in the back end of the year,” Moore told NMFC.com.au.

“From halfway on, the majority (of his time) was on the wing and his work rate went to another level.

“To be able to force his way into the side for Round 23, then play well, showed everyone he’s definitely up to the standard. We’re hoping to see more of him.”

McKenzie has played 23 games in four seasons, after being selected with pick 18 in the 2011 National Draft.

Known for his elite skills by foot, the 22-year-old will go into another pre-season campaign full of confidence after showing significant improvement in 2015.

Clubs will submit their first list lodgement later this week, before the 2pm, October 30 deadline.
