North Melbourne interim coach Rhyce Shaw’s message to his players is a simple one; keep doing what they are doing, and the results will take care of themselves.
“The best teams play their way no matter what, and that’s the mentality we are going to try to keep,” Shaw told the media on Thursday.
“We’re looking to bring our best again this weekend, and that’s been our main focus.
“We’re going to tinker every now and then as you have to at AFL level, but we’ll try keep the basis the same.
“We will look at St Kilda and see what we can possibly exploit or protect ourselves.”
Although the Saints haven’t been getting the results of late, Shaw is very wary of the threat they can pose.
“We’ll play every opposition on their merits, and St Kilda has played some pretty good footy,” he said.
“I watched them against Richmond and they really took it to them, and they’re going to be a challenge.
“They’ve had a tough time with injuries, but they are playing a good brand of football.
“They may not have got the results lately, but they really pushed Richmond, and we won’t be taking them lightly at all.”
Majak Daw’s miraculous return to football has been one of the best stories this week, but Shaw said he still has two sessions to get through before he gets the all-clear to play in the VFL.
“There’s two sessions for Maj (Majak Daw) to get through; today, and on Saturday,” Shaw said.
“We’re looking forward to him hopefully getting through that, and fingers crossed for Sunday.”
Shaw reiterated how much he is enjoying the challenge of being a senior coach, but was quick to credit his players’ efforts.
“I really enjoy coming to work every day,” he said.
“It’s a great challenge and opportunity for me, and the boys are doing me a favour at the moment.
“I love seeing them enjoying their footy and playing good footy.”
