North Melbourne will reach 50,000 members in the near future according to CEO & Managing Director Carl Dilena.

As the Kangaroos prepare for an assault on season 2016, the club’s off-field ambitions remain high after securing more than 41,000 members in 2015.

“It’s been a big journey,” Dilena told NMFC.com.au.

“Five years ago we set the aspirational target of getting to 40,000, which probably seemed unachievable at the time because we were only in the low 20,000s in membership.

“But we actually got to 40,000 a year earlier than the target. That creates a really positive feeling amongst the club and what we want to do now is make sure we are setting those aspirations pretty high again.”

Now, 50,000 is on the radar.

“The next hurdle for us is to look at 50,000 and say ‘how do we achieve that?’ and be positive about that and really chase it as hard as we can,” Dilena added.

The club is drawing on the famed Shinboner Spirit to encourage fans to sign up with the official campaign to be launched today.

A substantial number of supporters have already joined with the club cracking the 30,000 member mark earlier than ever before.

Close to 3,000 more have signed up than at the same time last year.

“The whole vibe around the club is great, everyone is looking forward to 2016 and it’s a really positive feeling,” Dilena added.

Dilena also told NMFC.com.au the club was in a solid financial position, following another profit in 2015 despite concerns in global financial markets.

“Overall we’re looking pretty strong. It will be a tougher year, I think things are tightening up a bit commercially, so that will be a challenge.

“If we can keep growing membership in a solid way, and maintain our position around sponsorship, we should be in a good position again this year.”
