Three successive seasons with 60-plus goals is no mean feat, but Ben Brown is only looking to get better in 2020.
“Looking forward to next year there’s always room for improvement, but I’ve felt that the last few years I have been pretty consistent,” Brown told the Powershop Players Podcast.
“Being a little bit stronger in the contest is something that’s always been a little bit of a weakness of mine.
“It’s something that I can only keep trying to put time into.
“I have strengths that other guys don’t have, so I can just try to chip away at the weaknesses."
Brown booted 64 majors for the year and made the All-Australian squad of 40 for the third year running.
And while he's doing just about everything right on-field, the number 50 hopes to make his presence felt away from it too.
“I want to improve my leadership as well, and want to develop into a stronger leader around the club," Brown said.
“I feel like North Melbourne has invested time into me, and I want to be able to make myself, my teammates and the workplace better.”
The 200-centimetre forward’s brilliant performances in 2019 had him in the hunt for the Coleman Medal, but he was ultimately pipped at the final post by the Giants' Jeremy Cameron.
Brown insisted that the individual award didn’t play on his mind.
“I knew it (the Coleman) was there in the background, but I didn’t focus on it too much," he said.
“I know Jeremy (Cameron) is an amazing player, and he showed that in the final round.
“These things are in the background, but you try to keep them there.
“The family and I were watching some 'Back to the Future' and keeping an eye on the stats, and it didn’t go the best way for me, but good on him (Cameron) ... he had a great year.”
