Geelong forward Shane Kersten has indicated he wants to join Fremantle after 37 games with the Cats.
The 23-year-old played 17 games and kicked 22 goals in 2016 but did not play for the Cats in their two finals.
His manager Colin Young confirmed on NAB AFL Trade Radio that Kersten was looking to return to his home state to continue his career.
Kersten passed his medical checks with Fremantle last Friday and the Dockers and Cats will now speak in the next two days about an appropriate trade.
"I spoke to (Geelong list manager) Stephen Wells this morning and we were supposed to get to him late last night to say that Shane had made his mind up,” Young said.
"I think they're meeting today or tomorrow to discuss what Geelong will want and require from Fremantle to get the job done. It's all happened pretty quickly."
The Dockers have been monitoring the West Australian as they look to bolster their forward line following the retirement of club legend Matthew Pavlich and are understood to have made contact with the Cats on Wednesday.
With Ex-Giant Cam McCarthy joining the Dockers, the club hopes to have a young, emerging forward line in 2017.
Geelong picked up Kersten with selection No.34 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft but he did not make his debut until round 14, 2014.
He is a beautiful kick and is expected to improve with more opportunities at the Dockers.
