As an All-Australian, Syd Barker Medalist and 200-gamer, it’s easy to take Todd Goldstein’s impact for granted.
But in 2019, there’s no doubting the North big man has returned to some of his best form.
Although his hit-out numbers aren’t as high as previous years, Goldstein has evolved into a more well-rounded ruckman, increasing his other numbers almost across the board.
The No.22 has recorded some of his best statistical numbers since his 2015 All Australian year, with increases year-on-year in disposals (16.1 a game), clearances (3.6), contested possessions (8.6) and one percenters (4).
In Round 10, Goldstein had an equal career-high 28 disposals, and he’s already had 20 possessions or more on four occasions; the same number as 2015, and just one less than his full-season tally of five last year.
Goldstein ranks fourth for ruckmen for average disposals in 2019, and third for score involvements (5.4).
The AFL Player Ratings rank Goldstein as the third best ruckman in the competition, and the eighth best player overall, such has been his impact in 2019.
The 31-year-old put in yet another strong performance in the Round 18 loss to the Lions, collecting 16 disposals (10 contested), and 40 hit-outs against Stefan Martin.
The ruckman has been extremely durable over his career, and barring injury in the remaining rounds, he is set to play 20+ AFL games for the ninth time in 10 seasons.
With Goldstein showing no signs of slowing down, Roos fans will be hoping to see his excellent form continue into the years to come.
