Aiden Bonar describes his move to North Melbourne as a dream come true.
“The chance to play for the Roos, in my home state, in front of my friends and family… This has been a dream come true.”
The 20 year-old was traded to North from the Giants along with their future fourth round pick for North’s future third round pick.
“I’m so excited to come back home to Melbourne, and North and Shawry (Rhyce Shaw) have been really great.
"I won't be wasting this opportunity and am extremely hungry to prove myself and make my mark on the competition.”
An athletic inside midfielder, who can also play as a forward, Bonar says he will do whatever coach Rhyce Shaw needs, if it means he can have a meaningful impact for the Kangaroos.
"I’ll play wherever Shawry sees me fit into the team, and whatever opportunity is available I’ll take it and grab it.
"I feel like I have a lot to offer and just want the opportunity to show it and hopefully I’ll bring a new element to the team and can really contribute."
Originally from Victoria, Bonar says that he felt a strong pull to move back.
“Being able to come home and have the support of family and friends will be a really great environment for me to play my football.”
Family not the only draw.
“It’s also an absolute dream to be able to potentially play alongside Luke Davies-Uniacke in the midfield,” Bonar said.
Davies-Uniacke, North’s first draft selection in 2018, and Bonar spent their teenage years playing alongside each other for the Dandenong Stingrays and at different competitions and carnivals.
“He’s one of my best friends, and to be able to play alongside a best mate with new teammates and a fresh start… well you can’t ask for more.
"I really view this as a chance to reignite my career at Arden Street, I’m so grateful and can’t wait to get started.”
