North will go into the upcoming draft with the fourth round selection for the first time in history, in the hope of uncovering a gem.
Despite many pick 64’s failing to make an impact at the highest level, there have been a handful of draftees who have managed to carve-out strong careers.
The most distinguished player to be taken with this selection is Nick Malceski, who was drafted by Sydney back in 2002.
The defender played 176 games for the Swans, before moving to Gold Coast where he lined-up 34 times across two seasons. He retired at the end of 2016.
Malceski earnt an All-Australian cap in 2014, and was an integral part of Sydney’s 2012 premiership side, in which he kicked the dramatic sealer late in the fourth quarter.
Melbourne also came up trumps when they selected midfielder Cameron Bruce with their final pick at the 1999 draft.
Notching up 234 games over 13 seasons, Bruce captained Melbourne in 2008 and also won the club’s best and fairest that year, then moved across to Hawthorn, where he played two seasons before retiring in 2010.
