With only two days until AFL returns to North’s traditional home, Arden Street is taking shape.
The goal posts and signage are in place, the surface is emblazoned with the JLT Series logo, and building works are rapidly progressing on coaches’ boxes and media facilities.
It’s over 31 years since North’s last game at Arden Street, and many things have changed.
The famous grandstand that once seated so many fans has been replaced with the club’s new administration facility, while the famous Gasometer that cast a huge shadow over the ground is long gone.
Grassed areas surround the boundaries, replacing the old seating, while the club now boasts a playing surface with the same dimensions as Etihad Stadium.
In all, North played 529 games at Arden Street across 61 seasons in the VFL.
Perhaps game 530, against Hawthorn on Sunday, will be one of the most memorable of them all.
Please note: There will be no parking available for this match. We encourage all patrons to use public transport.
