Ben Brown says he’s making the most of his opportunity as the Roos’ number one key forward.
With Jarrad Waite sidelined, Brown will likely line up against the opposition’s best defender each week and no doubt be one of the main avenues to goal for North.
Brown certainly impressed against Geelong, kicking three goals and taking some imposing contested marks.
“I want to continue to improve and be that number one key forward in the side and put my hand up for that role,” Brown told The Mercury.
“I suppose last year that (responsibility) grew towards the end of the year. I was getting better defenders and I had to open up my trick bag a little bit and do some developing of my game to improve on those areas.
“It is probably a position I’m trying to learn a little bit more about this year, being a leader. It is a skill you have to develop and I’m trying to do some work on that.”
The Tasmanian said he was excited about the club’s first home game in Hobart for 2017 and predicted a fierce match up with one of the premiership favourites.
After a tough one-point loss to the Cats, Brown said there was still plenty of positive energy at Arden Street this week.
“There was a little bit of disappointment to lose a game like that when we were so close,” Brown added.
“But we can sit around and feel sorry for ourselves or we can pick ourselves up and get ready for GWS, which is a massive game for us.
“We are really looking forward to taking it up to them, and we think we are absolutely every chance to beat them.”
North take on the Giants at Blundstone Arena on Saturday, with tickets available through Ticketek.
