North Melbourne’s Australia Post AFL Community Camp has again been an overwhelming success.
In just two days, North players and staff managed to engage with 20 per cent of Tasmania’s primary schools, as well as visiting local football clubs, hospitals and community groups.
On Tuesday, the Roos were again spread out across the state, from north to south.
Home grown hero Ben Brown spoke to the Tasmanian media at North Hobart Oval as hundreds of students took part in a clinic at North Hobart Oval.
“We’ve had players in Launceston and Devonport, as well as Hobart, yesterday and today which has been great, so we get to get around to a lot of different community events,” Brown said.
Teammate and fellow Tasmanian, Mitch Hibberd, said he loved spending time in his home state, reflecting on his own experiences as a Roos' fan living in Hobart.
“Obviously being a North supporter, I used to come and meet all the players, so I can see how everyone’s pretty excited, just how I was back in the day,” Hibberd said.
First-year player Josh Williams said he was thrilled to be able to take part in clinics and spend time in the community.
“All these kids are great,” Williams said.
“It’s good to come down to Tassie and give back to the community and these kids. They probably wouldn’t have been exposed to much before, so it’s great to be able to be here.”
The players return to Arden Street on Wednesday with the countdown to the club’s final JLT Community Series match, and of course round one against West Coast, well and truly underway.
