Vice-captain Robbie Tarrant says North won’t dwell on a disappointing final quarter against Geelong, instead focusing firmly on the positives.

The Roos led by as much as 32 points during the third term, before eventually suffering a heartbreaking one-point loss.

“To lose that [game] is disappointing, but we’ve got to look forward,” Tarrant told NMFC.com.au.

“You’ve got to stay up and about. It’s a long year and we did a lot of things right, but in saying that we still need to get better.

“I think the first three quarters, we showed real positives in the group. We’ll look to improve on that last quarter throughout the week and then attack GWS [Giants] with the same intent as the first three quarters.”

Tarrant highlighted the Roos’ emerging small forwards as playing a key role against the Cats.

“In the first three quarters we had them [the Cats] on the back foot,” he said.

“The forward pressure that the young guys like Jy [Simpkin] and ‘Garns’ [Taylor Garner] and Kayne [Turner] put on was amazing.

“We spoke about in the pre-season guys taking their opportunity, and those guys have taken theirs.

“The positive thing is the boys who aren’t playing are really pushing their cases as well. I’m sure the boys playing VFL will get their opportunity at some stage.”

The North players hit the water for recovery this morning, with attention turning to Saturday’s clash against Greater Western Sydney in Hobart.

“They [the Giants] had a really good win so we are certainly going to have to bring our best,” Tarrant added.

“If we start like we did yesterday, we should be OK.”
