“A lot of the stuff I’m good at is me just trying to play basketball on a footy field,” Drennan explained to North Media.
The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' open age recruit hails from a basketball background and is only in her second year of footy.
“I had an old basketball teammate who put something on Facebook trying to get people to come try-out for the Cranbourne footy team,” Drennan said.
“I decided to go, mostly just to see how my fitness was going but one of the coaches wanted me to play and come to their academy.
However her transition to footy wasn't all smooth sailing early on.
“The first day that I decided to give footy a try, my husband and I figured I should learn to kick. It was definitely the hardest part; I was terrible,” she said.
“The stuff that I’m good at is hand-balling and working in a tight area. But kicking and getting used to being on a bigger field has taken some adjustment.”
Drennan never gave in and tackled the challenges with determination and relentlessness.
“I’ve come a long way since I started," she said.
"This year I was playing VFL for the Southern Saints and had the opportunity to train in a professional environment for three months leading up to the season, as well as during the season. It has been great and I’ve been able to improve really quickly.
“It’s awesome to look at how I’ve come from not being able to kick to now being able to hit targets.”
Although new to the game, her passion is undeniable.
“I’m so excited about playing for North. I love sport and I love footy. And playing AFLW I will get to play more games," she said.
“I love challenging myself and looking at the line-up we have at North Melbourne I’m really excited to play with some of these girls who are just amazing players.”
