Just when we thought Emma Kearney had won every award on offer in 2018, the AFLW’s best player collected another.
Most recently, Kearney took home the Peter Scanlon Community Award which acknowledged her spirit of giving and going the ‘extra mile’ without recognition or praise.
North Melbourne board member, Brady Scanlon, presented the award and praised Kearney’s contribution to the community.
“Humble and modest in her achievement on the field, Kearney is an inspiration and a role model for many young people,” Scanlon said.
“Since 2012 Kearney has been involved in coaching auskick and junior football clubs in Flemington, and inspiring passion and participation in our great game.
“She goes above and beyond to support girls and young women in realising their dreams and aspirations. Including helping them overcome barriers to participation including purchasing uniforms and equipment out of her own pocket.”
Kearney was not only surprised, but honoured.
“I was definitely shocked when I got called up to accept the award,” Kearney told North Media.
“But it was a great acknowledgment for the work I’ve been doing, and I feel very honoured and proud to have received it.”
