Alex Morgan isn't taking anything for granted at Arden St, especially having the opportunity to learn from one of the game's greatest ever players.
The 22-year-old has impressed in the VFL so far this season, and attributes his early form to a close relationship with Senior Development Coach and AFL legend, Gavin Brown.
“It’s mainly been about taking the game on,” he told North Media.
“He [Brown] wants me to use my attributes and play to my strengths, which is why I’m here at the club now. I think I did that a little bit on the weekend.”
Morgan spent his first two years with Essendon before joining North at the end of 2017.
Despite being a fresh face, he already sees a bright future with the Roos.
“I think it’s a pretty similar dynamic, but I can tell this club is different,” Morgan said.
“We’ve got a younger playing group here. I’m still in a learning phase myself, being in my third year.
“There’s still a few AFL-listed boys in defence. It’s good that we’re all on the same page.”
For the speedy defender, it's all about performing at the same level each week as he pushes for an AFL debut.
“Hopefully I can string together a four-quarter performance,” he said.
“I’d love to get a taste of it [AFL] myself soon. What I want to focus on is consistency, bringing similar things each week and bringing more of my attributes.
“I want to focus on what makes me a good player, bringing my pace into a game and bringing my skills on both sides of the body. I’d like to tie it all together.
“I think I’m making the right steps and working towards it.”
Fans are invited to attend Saturday’s VFL match against Essendon at Windy Hill, with the first bounce at 12.00pm.
