North veteran Scott Thompson is happy he and his teammates and prove the doubters wrong, but says internally the Roos never had any doubt about their ability.
“You hear the news (before the season) and everyone thinks we are going to be bottom,” Thompson told the media.
“6-4 is definitely a good start, but we aren’t trying to prove people wrong.
“We have confidence in our list and everyone is contributing really well.”
Despite many of the plaudits going the way of veterans such as Thompson and key-forward Jarrad Waite, it is the youth of the list that is impressing North’s number 16.
“All the young guys in our team are the ones that are really getting us playing well,” he said.
“We just want to encourage them to go about their game, and hope they can keep playing the way they’re playing.”
Although the Roos are defying external expectations by occupying fifth place on the AFL ladder, Thompson is certainly not getting carried away.
“It’s only half way through the season,” Thompson said.
“If you look at the ladder, Port Adelaide are on the same points and are ninth. One little slip-up and you’re out of the eight.
“There’s still a few more games to be played before we start talking about that (finals).”
