Ben Jacobs believes there is light at the end of the tunnel, following a "perfect storm" of head/neck issues stemming from an incident in Round 11 last season.
The tagger admits he has no timeline on a return and may never know the true cause behind the various issues he has faced since suffering "whiplash" against Brisbane.
Jacobs has dealt with severe face and neck pain, headaches, blocked ears and pressure in his head.
"It is clear ... I had none of these symptoms before I hit my head (at Marvel Stadium), so since then it has been a combination of things," Jacobs details in a North Media podcast to be released on Friday.
"I have had a neck injury ... I have just had my head knocked on the ground ... whether that has flared up the jaw, the nerves in the head, the neck ... it is the perfect storm type of thing.
"To say it is one thing, we can't be sure. I can't rule anything out."
The 27-year-old says he had surgery to repair a sinus issue and had a nerve block in his neck burnt off in an effort to ease the pain, but to no avail.
"It could be an accumulation of a lot of things," he said.
"I could have had a bit of concussion at the start, and right now that is gone, and there could be some stuff from the jaw and the neck."
Most recently he's been fitted with a day-time and night-time mouthguard to help re-align his jaw and combat sleep apnea; a condition that causes him to stop breathing at night, affecting his ability to rest and recuperate adequately.
"You kind of stop breathing a certain amount of times ... normal is like couple of times, but I am like 10 to 12 times," he said.
"Obviously, my head doesn't feel great now, but my body is good. I don't feel like this is going to hamper me in any way long term.
"I feel like I can pick it up when I am healthy again.
"My body hasn't been battered and bruised too much ... I feel like I have plenty to give."
"It's been a ten or eleven month process to find out what's wrong."
