If Brent Harvey has it his way, he’ll play beyond 2014.

“I am 35, but my mind and body don’t feel 35,” Harvey told NMFC.com.au.

“As long as I feel like that, I love the game, I love the footy club, I think that takes over and everything hopefully should happen.”

Monday’s session marked Harvey’s return to training after an extended break ahead of a remarkable 19th season.

“Being a little bit older I think Brad looked after me this year and given (sic) me the extra week off.  I was just up the river with the kids and it was fantastic for the break.

“A week, it’s not a long time but when you put it on the back of a normal two-week break, it becomes three weeks and it becomes the right amount of time. I think mentally it freshens me up.”

Despite the rest of the group gaining a two week head-start in the new year, the number 29 is confident he hasn’t fallen too far behind.

“Even when I’m away, I’ve still got a program to follow, I just don’t have to come into the club to do it. I’m still training very hard, so I don’t think I’m too far away from the boys,” he added.

Harvey sits ninth on the list for games played, but could climb as high as third if he’s able to play every game this year.

It’s little wonder his team-mates have so much respect.

“It was good to have him back there running around, hearing his little voice again,” Ben Cunnington said.

“His leadership is second to none. Just to have that extra voice is always good and he helps a lot of the young guys out.”
