The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have trumped St Kilda by 44 points under sunny skies in their first pre-season showing of the 2024 season.

The Roos held the Saints goalless in the first half and flexed their muscles after the main change to surge towards a 10.9 (69) to 3.7 (25) win in match simulation training at RSEA Park.

Tall forward Emma King was firing on all cylinders and finished with three goals, while the defensive unit echoed its form from the previous year, conceding just the three majors.

It was a scrappy opening few minutes at Moorabbin as both sides brushed off the cobwebs.

Young midfielder Ruby Tripodi brought the physicality early and it was Emma King who snagged the first goal of the afternoon eight minutes in, collecting, turning and snapping one home.

The veteran created another highlight soon after, plucking a one-handed grab.

Draftee Ella Slocombe was among the action and looked comfortable streaming forward with ball in hand, while captain Emma Kearney looked as agile as ever as she got productive off half-back.

Under the ruck craft of Kim Rennie, Jasmine Garner, Mia King and Ash Riddell began to assert themselves in the second quarter, while the pressure applied from Amy Smith and Jasmine Ferguson continued to halt any momentum the Saints looked to create.

Two more goals to Emma King – one coming off another strong pluck – and one to Tahlia Randall saw the Roos take a 25-point buffer into half-time.

St Kilda struck first to kick off the third term and almost had two in a row but some stout defensive work from Taylah Gatt meant the Saints would have to wait for second.

Emma King turned creator as the Kangas started to pull away on the scoreboard, tapping a perfectly placed ball to Riddell who snapped truly from close range.

A free kick and converted set shot for Bella Eddey saw the small forward put her name on the scoresheet, followed by Smith who crumbed and goaled on the back of a forward-50 intercept by Gatt.

Gatt continued to shine in the third term, using her pace and tenacity to force a stoppage inside North Melbourne's attacking 50 despite being outnumbered by St Kilda backs.

Heading into the last quarter, tight defensive and intercept work from Ferguson, Sarah Wright, Lucy Burke and Erika O'Shea again thwarted the forward launches by the Saints.

Proving too powerful for her direct opponent, Randall reined in a grab and made no mistake from point-blank range for her second goal of the day.

The scoreboard kept ticking over as time elapsed in the fourth term, with Niamh Martin using her speed to gather and goal before notching an assist by feeding Zoe Savarirayan for the No.4's first.

On a down note, youngster Georgia Stubs was stretchered off after 15 minutes of action with a serious lower leg injury.
