The North Melbourne Football Club is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Bill Serong and extends its heartfelt condolences to Bill's family and friends during this time.
Shinboner No.543, Serong represented the Kangaroos 16 times and kicked eight goals in his one and only season at the club in 1962.
He didn't need more than a year to etch his name into the history books though, as he picked up that season's Syd Barker Medal.
Prior to his stint at North Melbourne, Serong featured 98 times for Collingwood between 1956 and 1961 and was a member of the Magpies’ 1958 premiership-winning side.
Strong, agile, and quick on his feet, he finished third and second in the Copeland Trophy (Collingwood’s best and fairest award) in 1959 and 1960 respectively, while also finishing equal-second in the Brownlow Medal in 1959.
The players will wear black armbands this Saturday in honour of Serong.
