Despite media reports to the contrary, the development of a Major Sports and Entertainment Precinct in Ballarat continues to gather momentum.

The Consortium to spearhead the development met for the first time last night and North Melbourne was represented by CEO Eugene Arocca.

Chaired by Cr Judy Verlin, the Consortium agreed to work towards the development of the Northern Sports and Entertainment Precinct as a world class major sport, events and entertainment precinct that meets the needs of the Ballarat and regional community.

“Cr Verlin was instrumental in the establishment of North Melbourne’s partnership with the City of Ballarat back in 2008 and we are delighted that she is spearheading this project,” Arocca said.

“There is a wide variety of stakeholders at the table with genuine enthusiasm about this project and what it could deliver for the Ballarat community.”

Cr Verlin said that the recent state budget had not impacted the proposed development.

“There was not a formal submission made to the government so there was no expectation from council’s point of view that it would be funded this year,” she said.
