Our fantasy team scaled another mountain this week, notching our 10th consecutive victory in the AFL Fantasy league.
There was carnage on every line and we were behind for much of the weekend, but a gallant performance from star midfielder Brendon Goddard dragged us over the line against the Crows.
The Adelaide fan team had a great week, notching 2063 points, but thanks to Goddard we managed 2103 for a 40-point victory. The Bombers' on-baller was the highest scorer for the round, but was ably supported by Jimmy Bartel’s 148 points in defence.
Late withdrawals weren’t kind to us this week, with Dayne Beams and Jack Gunston ruled out at the last minute. Fortunately we had Claye Beams and Cam Shenton to step in, and their 59 and 63 points proved to be pivotal in the end. It just goes to show it always pays to set your emergencies.
We remain a game clear on top of the ladder, with our noses ahead of the Brisbane Lions. They have only lost two games this season (both to us) so we need to keep on winning to maintain our hold at the top of the ladder.
Our opponent this week
This week is a real danger game for us. We face Geelong’s ‘J Walkers’, who despite not winning a game and sitting on the bottom of the ladder, have been much improved in recent weeks. Geelong boasts Franklin, Mumford, Riewoldt, Cloke and Stokes as unique stars, but have so far been getting along without Ablett, Pendlebury or Beams. Let’s hope our gun midfielders can get the job done again.
On the block
Leigh Montagna has averaged 75 points from his last five games, Shaun Higgins has dropped off to an average of 72 in that time, while Billy Longer isn’t really delivering much in our third ruck spot. Still, it might be the right time to do a double downgrade, bank some cash and look at upgrading to another premium in the coming weeks.
The alternative is to move on Higgins and Montagna while we can, in search of someone in better form. Jeremy McGovern looks like a prime trade-in target, after scoring 95 points last week. Trading the pair would allow us to grab a gun midfielder and change, while moving Higgins would set up the rest of our year in terms of cash reserves.
Trade decisions:
1. Double downgrade, bank some cash for upgrades later
2. Sell Shaun Higgins for Jeremy McGovern, downgrade another cash cow
3. Trade Higgins and Montagna, for McGovern and a premium midfielder
