JOHN Lennon wanted to give peace a chance – Darren Bewick wants to do the same for the kids.
The North Melbourne assistant coach told northmelbournefc.com.au the Roos had plenty of faith in their youth.
"I reckon we've shown that we're not afraid to put new players in the side – I think we've played 35 or 36 blokes already," he said. "And we're looking at a few more to probably have a crack before the end of the year."
Defenders Jess Sinclair and Jesse Smith have both missed most of the year through injury, and Bewick said that while their exclusion had hurt the team, it was the classic case of misfortune for one providing opportunity for another.
"Jess Sinclair has played limited footy this year, and he's probably going to need a couple of games in the VFL, and I think we're going to really wait and see with Jesse Smith – we want to get him to a point where he's physically able to withstand the rigours of AF footy.
"He came back for two games early in the year, and I don't think his body was right, so we've got to make sure that he's right this time.
"So I'd imagine them playing at least two or three games before we seriously have a look at them.
"As a result, we've been able to introduce a couple of new blokes, who have really stepped up.
"I think all our supporters would be really rapt with the way that Gavin Urquhart's come on, and he's come into half-back, where both Sinclair and Smith have been playing.
"So in some ways we probably have missed them, but in others I think it's been a real bonus for others, because we've been able to get games into some of the younger boys.
"Todd Goldstein's really come on in the last month or so – with Hamish [McIntosh] being out there's an opportunity for him.
"Ben Ross has been pretty consistent throughout the year, and after an opportunity early in the year, has gone back and done well for Werribee, so he's putting his hand up again.
"Players like Levi Greenwood – who has really stepped up in the last month – are a chance.
"They're the type of boys that we think we need to have a look at before the end of the year.
"Maybe with their inclusion they'll bring that bit of spark to the team."
