Todd Goldstein has informed North Melbourne of his intention to continue his AFL career at another club next season.
Goldstein played his 315th and last match for the Kangaroos in Round 24 after a stellar 17-year career at Arden St.
Taken at selection No.37 in the AFL Draft way back in 2006, Goldstein made his AFL debut against Port Adelaide in Round 15, 2008.
He has picked up a number of awards and accolades along the way, being named the All-Australian ruckman in 2015, the same year he won the Syd Barker Medal.
Notably, he also holds two major ruck records. His 80 hitouts against Greater Western Sydney in 2015 is the most ever in a single match and he has won more hitouts than any other player in the game’s history (currently 9,837 at an average of just over 31 per game).
North Melbourne general manager of football Todd Viney paid tribute to Goldstein, saying that he would be missed by his teammates and the broader North Melbourne faithful.
"Goldy has been a loyal and decorated servant of the club so it’s naturally sad to see him go," Viney said.
"It's a credit to him that he has been able to play over 300 games at the one club and it’ll be strange to see him in different colours.
"He’s incredibly popular among our members and supporters and he’s been a great mentor for our young and emerging rucks, especially Tristan Xerri.
"We wish Todd nothing but the best in his future endeavours and he leaves knowing that Flick and his family are welcome back at Arden St any time."
Goldstein acknowledged that the club is taking a path that may limit his ability to play senior football at North Melbourne in 2024.
"It's been a really tough decision," Goldstein said. "I’ve been talking to my manager and my family about what’s going to be best for us going forward … and I think that’s to look for other opportunities elsewhere.
"It’s probably time for the club to have a clean break and give Tristan (Xerri) the opportunity to shine in the number one ruck role.
"I appreciate everything the North Melbourne footy club and all the supporters have given me. They’ve been the greatest supporters I could have asked for.
"I hope for nothing but the best for this footy club and for this group going forward."
