Young North Melbourne forward Paul Curtis has been named a finalist for the 2023 rebel AFL Goal of the Year thanks to his rousing effort from the boundary line against the Sydney Swans in Round 10.
Curtis, 20, gained possession while on the Marvel Stadium turf just inside the 50-metre arc, got to his feet, and evaded Sydney defenders Robbie Fox and Nick Blakey before energising the home crowd with a major from the tightest of angles.
It was his second nomination of the season and second in as many weeks after he crafted a terrific left-foot dribbler against the Power in Round 9.
North Melbourne's No.25 backed up an impressive debut season by kicking 17 goals from 21 appearances in 2023, including a career-high haul of four against the West Coast Eagles in Round 20.
Also vying for GOTY recognition is Brisbane's Will Ashcroft and Port Adelaide's Dan Houston.
Voting is now open for the 2023 rebel Goal of the Year and the overall winner will be selected by the AFL All-Australian Committee (counted as 10 votes) and by public voting (counted as one vote).
The winner will be presented with the rebel Goal of the Year at the 2023 Brownlow Medal.
All members of the public that vote and picked a weekly winner in the 2023 rebel Goal of the Year will go into the draw to win a total prize of $5,000, which includes $4,000 cash and a $1,000 rebel voucher.
