A $30,000 surprise
Thanks to supporters like Ashleigh Christensen, CEO Carl Dilena was presented with a $110,000 cheque.
From Port Headland in Western Australia, Christensen can’t wait to take his family to Melbourne to watch his beloved Kangaroos in action on their home turf.
“I’m going to book a trip for next year to take my parents and brother and sister to watch a game as I’ve never seen a live game in Melbourne before,” Christensen told NMFC.com.au.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, especially as a big North supporter based in WA.”
After letting his membership lapse for a few years, Christensen decided to renew this season and he continued to help the club by purchasing a ticket in the Support & Win raffle. A few short months later, he received a phone call to tell him he was the lucky winner of the major prize, but he wasn’t sure whether to believe the news.
“It was a big surprise, especially in the times that we live in I got a bit dubious…I’ve never heard anyone in my family or any of my friends winning something like this, so I found it hard to believe,” Christensen said.
“I bought the ticket at the end of the season then kind of forgot all about it to be honest… I didn’t even remember what the prize was. But it was fantastic to hear the news. I’ve got a lot of things coming up, Christmas is obviously around the corner, as well as my brother’s wedding so it will definitely help me out a lot.”
A North supporter since birth, Christensen’s loyalty have never wavered despite growing up surrounded by Fremantle and West Coast Eagles’ supporters.
“When I was little all my birthday presents from my aunties and everyone was always a junior roo membership and I’ve followed the Roos ever since.
“I love my footy and playing local sport in town you know how important memberships are to clubs. Being a member of this club is great, I know I can take mates with me to games and there’s always invites to different dinners and events so it will be good to get to visit Melbourne to get more involved in what they’re doing.”
Thanks to supporters like Christensen who purchased $200 Support & Win tickets throughout the season, North Melbourne CEO Carl Dilena was presented with a cheque for $110,000 to contribute to club’s Box On Debt Reduction program.
