North Melbourne young gun Harry Sheezel has broken the all-time record for most disposals in a debut V/AFL home and away season.
Having gathered 556 touches in his impressive season to date, Sheezel required 19 possessions heading into Round 23 against Richmond to claim the record, which has stood for 33 years.
Sheezel had 18 touches to half-time and broke the record two minutes into the third quarter with a pinpoint pass inside 50, setting up an eventual goal to Nick Larkey.
The previous record-holder was Scott Russell, who won 574 disposals in his first year playing for Collingwood in 1990.
It’s a tremendous feat that further stakes Sheezel’s claim for this season’s AFL Rising Star Award, which will be announced in September.
Having collected an average of 26.5 disposals across 21 games in 2023 prior to Saturday's match at the MCG, Sheezel earned a well-deserved spot in the AFL Players' Association 22under22 squad when it was named two weeks ago.
