North Melbourne will have close to its full squad to choose from for its final NAB Challenge game this weekend.

Despite Shaun Higgins’ minor knee procedure a fortnight ago, Director of Football Geoff Walsh said the number four was every chance to line up against the Hawks at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

“Shaun’s come on really well,” Walsh told RSN on Monday morning.

“His swelling post-op has been really manageable and he did a session before Family Day (on Sunday).

“I think he’ll push for selection this week and we’re delighted with how quickly he’s come up.”

The three remaining players on the sidelines – the 2014 draftees – are all progressing well in their respective recoveries.

“Daniel Nielson is in the final throes of recovering from his knee reconstruction (from the 2015 pre-season),” Walsh said.

“Sammy (Durdin) could be ready to make his return this week.

“So we’re not too bad on the injury front, which is one of the keys you look for to try and get all your players on deck.”

With Werribee continuing to fine-tune its preparations for Round 1, if Durdin does see any action it could be with the Tigers.

Meanwhile Ed Vickers-Willis continues his recovery from shoulder surgery and is on track for a return in the early rounds of the VFL season.

“It was great to see Daniel back. Eight games in two years, the fans and the team have sadly missed him.

“It was great to see him running around so unencumbered and freely.”
