North Melbourne's Ash Riddell and Nicole Bresnehan have taken out the Kangaroos' first time trial on night one of the 2023 AFLW pre-season.

The pair each came in more than half a minute in front of the benchmarks for their respective positions.

"I guess all the hard sessions over the last four or five months have paid off," Riddell told NMFC Media.

Riddell and Bresnehan have been regular participants in – and organisers of – the 'Saturday Smash', comprising running sessions for any players who wanted to partake, and their efforts have borne fruit early.

They were followed closely by second-season winger Taylah Gatt, former Lion Lulu Pullar and experienced onballer Jenna Bruton.

Tall trio Tahlia Randall, Emma King and Kim Rennie were able to take 10, 15 and 22 seconds off their respective best times.

Recruits Eliza Shannon and Ruby Tripodi also impressed in their first official AFLW session since they crossed from Hawthorn and Williamstown.

"We've done a lot of work in the off-season to bring in some good characters," Bresnehan added.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing 'Rubes' (Tripodi) go about it, she's an absolute character and I can't wait to see what she brings to the midfield."

North Melbourne's men's and women's programs will come together on Tuesdays this winter, set to share training sessions and meeting spaces.

"We'll have the night off, which will be good!" Bresnehan laughed.

"It'll be nice to be in with the rest of the club, and to have some meetings up in the open area.

"I think all the girls are really looking forward to it."
