With North’s 2018 season complete, North Media analyses the performance of each player by using statistics, a coach review and season highlights. Next up is the VFL-listed Matt Northe.
Northe’s season
Based on his name alone, Matt Northe and North Melbourne were perhaps a dream pairing.
The talented goal-sneak wasn’t deterred by competition for places, working hard on the track to eventually earn his club debut in Round 13 against Coburg.
True to the Shinboner values, the 24-year-old was Never Beaten, and made a statement in his maiden appearance, holding his place in the side for the remainder of the season proper.
Seven goals in his final two games against Werribee and Footscray highlighted his importance within North’s forward six, providing support for key tall Nick Larkey, while offering an alternate route to goal.

What the coach said – David Loader
"Matty Northe was a surprise packet.
“He didn’t play and was probably one of the last guys included to our list, he didn’t play until halfway through the season. He came in and then never went out.
“By the last part of the season, he finished full of running. In the last round, he was probably in our top half dozen of players.
“Super impressed with Matty for his commitment and resilience to stick at it when it wasn’t going his way.
“When it started to go his way, he reaped the benefits.”

Q4 - How about that effort? Matt Northe shows his Shinboner spirit, earning a set-shot for his tackle in the goalsquare. He bends his effort through and we’ve got some distance again! #BeAShinboner
