VFL coach Tom Lynch says he's pleased with the attitude and team-first mentality his side displayed in Saturday morning's simulated practice match against St Kilda in Sandringham.

Due to a VFL bye, the Roos pushed themselves in the unofficial hitout at Trevor Barker Oval, as they prepare for their Round 7 reserves match-up with the Sandringham Zebras next Sunday.

"It was a really good day for our boys," Lynch said.

"We had a little 15 v 15 scratch match and the great thing for us today was that we were really consistent.

"We started well in both our ability to play the way we've been wanting to, and the boys were really clean and worked hard all morning.

"Often in these types of games you can blow up but we felt today, across all four quarters, that everybody worked extremely hard and they got the reward at the end of it.

"It was really tough to find anybody on the field today that couldn’t have been in our best."

Prized 2022 draft pick Wardlaw finished the morning with ice on his knee after copping a knock.
