It seemed Lindsay Thomas could do no wrong in the first quarter of Friday night’s clash against Carlton.

After two weeks on the sidelines through suspension, the small-forward had promised to make up for his indiscretion; he did so in the perfect way with three first quarter goals.

But there was one play that stood out from the rest. With just over a minute remaining, Thomas roved the ball at the front of the pack on North’s forward 50 arc. Carlton players closed in, but in the blink of an eye he spun away from Marc Murphy, faked a handball, turned Murphy inside out for a second time and kicked a wonderful goal from 40 metres.
