North Melbourne forwards coach Leigh Adams says that the match committee will have a difficult task selecting the Round 1 attack as players continue to raise their hand for an opening round spot.

One of whom is new Kangaroo Harry Sheezel who wowed onlookers with three goals in last Friday's match simulation against Richmond at Arden Street, while key forwards Nick Larkey and Charlie Comben notched two majors apiece.

Despite the eye-catching output from the trio, Adams has been rapt with the whole contingent's overall productivity thus far.

"There probably hasn’t been one (player) in particular that’s really stood out, but what I've been impressed with is that we've still got nine to 10 forwards that we think could probably play Round 1 for us that we need to get into six or seven spots … which is fantastic," Adams told North Media.

Over North Melbourne's internal pre-season match simulations, the forward line has been complemented by the likes of Ben Cunnington and Hugh Greenwood who have found ways to impact the scoreboard from midfield and as forwards.

While it's expected that club spearheads Larkey and Cam Zurhaar will be the main contributors in a goalkicking capacity through 2023, Adams expressed how vital it will be for North Melbourne's midfielders to spend time inside 50.

"It's really important (for our midfielders to push forward)," he said.

"Not only kicking goals from the midfield, but with the rotations these days, it's important that they actually spend some time as genuine forward.

"'Cunners' (Cunnington), 'Hughy' Greenwood, Jy Simpkin, Tom Powell; all those guys have been going through there and playing a really important role and kicking goals for us as well."

A part of the new-look coaching group with Alastair Clarkson at the helm, Adams is quickly finding his feet in his new role, while also learning everything he can from the four-time premiership coach.

"I haven't had a lot to do with the forward line (over my coaching career), most of my time has been spent in the midfield, so I'm looking forward to being involved with the forwards over the season," he said.

"I'll be there to help out 'Clarko' (Clarkson) as much as possible and trying to learn as much as I can off him.

"It's been a great experience so far, just being able to pick his brain about all things footy."
