As Round 1's match-up with the West Coast Eagles draws closer, the Kangaroos continue to work on their structures and skills under Alastair Clarkson in match simulations.

Second-year defender Josh Goater showed touch on the move under the January sun on Friday morning, sharply hitting targets with both his right and left boots.

Jackson Archer consistently had an impact off half-back, often making the correct decision of when to leave his direct opponent to make a forceful spoil elsewhere.

Veteran Liam Shiels covered the midfield well, as did Ben Cunnington who occasionally pushed forward. Playing deep in attack, he claimed a strong mark in front of Aiden Bonar before kicking truly from 30 metres.

He also showed some spring in his step when he flew high for a mark from four deep in a pack.

Alongside Shiels and Cunnington was Paul Curtis who again used his craftiness to get on his left foot and send his side inside 50 with some lace-out deliveries to the likes of Charlie Comben.

Young speedster Blake Drury continued to impress with his driving run and disposal execution, while Jack Mahony's slick hands and link-up with Bailey Scott caught interest from those gathered at Arden Street Oval.

Prized top-three draft pick Harry Sheezel looked more than comfortable in his deep-forward role, collecting plenty of possessions as an ever-present attacking threat.

Tristan Xerri and Todd Goldstein spent the majority of the session locked in the main ruck battle, with Callum Coleman-Jones, Jacob Edwards and Hamish Free featuring closer to goals.

With an emphasis on mobility in the forward line, Eddie Ford's attack on the contest and marking in pack situations stood out. He got some reward for effort after he converted a left-foot snap on a tight angle from the pocket after reining in a tough grab.

2020 draftees Will Phillips and Tom Powell were on the same wavelength at stoppages and all over the park. Whoever was winning the ball at the coalface was regularly releasing the other in space, making for an exciting midfield dynamic for the future.

George Wardlaw, Aaron Hall, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Griffin Logue, Darcy Tucker, Dan Howe, Phoenix Spicer and Aidan Corr were working hard on the sidelines in a limited capacity, while Brayden George continued to progress through his ACL rehabilitation.
