North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroo Jas Grierson will undergo minor surgery tomorrow to repair the torn meniscus in her left knee.
The versatile midfielder is expected to be sidelined for four weeks after suffering the injury while playing for Melbourne University Women’s Football Club (MUWFC).
“I had a feeling that something was wrong but I was having such a good time and playing some good footy that I tried to push through … for the long term thought I was best to get it sorted as soon as possible,” Grierson told North Media.
“It’s a minor surgery - just a bit of a clean-out so I should be back on my feet in a few weeks and then running around.”
Traded to North from Melbourne in the AFLW Expansion Period, Grierson’s admits she would’ve loved to have finished the VFLW season but the looming AFLW season remains the priority.
“The VFLW games are so important because nothing beats a game but I wanted to be right for day one of preseason,” she said.
“We’re expecting I’ll be back fit and firing day one of pre-season and hitting all my goals strength-wise.”
Looking at the season ahead, the 20-year-old is determined to take her game to the next level.
“I’d like to spend some more time in the midfield and on the wing. I want my endurance game to be much better so I’ll work on lots of running gin the pre-pre-season and also my strength and power too.”
