North Melbourne list and recruiting manager Brady Rawlings says the Kangaroos will only entertain a "significant" offer for Jason Horne-Francis.
Late on Sunday it was revealed the 19-year-old has requested a trade to his home state of South Australia, after only one season in blue and white.
Rawlings joined Trade Radio to map out the Kangaroos' next steps.
"It got to the end of last week and no trade request had come through for any of our players," he recalled.
"Given it had got to that stage we felt we had retained the players we were keen to retain, but late in the week the request came through.
"We’ve got 10 days to work through it with both Adelaide clubs, so we'll see how we go."
Despite Horne-Francis' status as a contracted player and a former top draft selection, Rawlings says North Melbourne will entertain the prospect of an exchange.

"We are (willing to negotiate)," Rawlings went on.
"When the pull of home is so great as it is with Jason, we will entertain it, but as I've said a number of times already, the deal will have to be one that's significant.
"He's now 12 months into his career, still in contract and only 19 years of age."
Rawlings says the Kangaroos can empathise with Horne-Francis' wish to return to his family.
"I've been informed that he is incredibly homesick," he related.
"He's got a very tight family, and he feels the best place for him to be is South Australia … (that it's the) best thing for him and his family, and for his football."
When he spoke with reporters earlier on Monday, Rawlings suggested two first-round selections would be just the starting point for negotiations.
No names were floated, but he went on to tell Trade Radio that the Roos are open to receiving players from the Crows or Power.
"We've made it quite well known we're trying to get a bit more mature," he went on.
"If there's a chance to get a player in this deal as well we'll certainly look at it, whether it be from Adelaide or Port Adelaide."
With Horne-Francis potentially on the move, Rawlings acknowledged the Roos' approach to this year's top selection may waver.
"We'll have to weigh all that up now," Rawlings began.
"It's something we'll always listen to. If we were to (be presented with) a deal that satisfied us, we'd consider it.
"But if Jason is to leave, we'll certainly have to consider whether we keep pick one as well."
