It hasn't been an optimal start to Season 7 for the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos, but star midfielder Jasmine Garner remains confident in the new-look group, despite being in uncharted territory.

"It's obviously not ideal to be 1-2, but we also know that we've played the two grand finalists from last year and we've come close – Melbourne was only two points and then a couple of goals against Adelaide – and both games could have gone either way," Garner said on Tuesday.

"We know we've got a lot of work to do, so hopefully we can start putting wins on the board because it is a short season, and we want to play finals.

"We've got a lot of belief inside the group. We are disappointed with the results of the last two weeks because we're not just here for honourable losses.

"We want to start winning these close games, but we also know we do have a bit of a different team to last year as well. I think it's six new players and a couple of the Irish girls are still learning but I think we can still take it up to the top teams."

This week, the Roos face another tough challenge in the Cats who have proven to be a top-four contender with impressive defensive abilities, having conceded just 27 points across the first three rounds.

"It's probably a good thing that we're going out to Launceston and playing at UTAS Stadium," said Garner.

"It's a great deck to play footy on and a big one as well, so hopefully we can get the ball free flowing and play the footy that we like to play."

Individually, Garner shot out of cannon to begin her seventh AFLW campaign, receiving two perfect 10-vote games from the AFL Coaches Association for the AFLW Champion Player of the Year Award.

She now sits equal first with Essendon's Madison Prespakis after three rounds with 26 votes while also leading the competition in total clearances (23).

"I'm just doing trying to do my best for the team," said Garner.

"The body is feeling good and I've had a nice pre-season, and I'm just really enjoying my footy."

Alongside other stars like Ash Riddell and Jenna Bruton, Garner acknowledged that the midfield mix is travelling well but a change of balance could prove beneficial.

"We've had good patches, but also there's some areas to improve on as well," said Garner.

"I guess going forward, we'll look to try a few new things especially with how we move the ball going forward. No big changes, we really like what we're doing in there, but we can improve."
