Former Shinboner Sam Wright is one of four new faces in the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos' coaching structure for the upcoming AFLW season.

Having spent the last three years as the Dancer Welfare and Development Coordinator at the Australian Ballet, Wright will take over coaching responsibilities for the Roos' forward line.

Drafted in 2008 from the northern Victorian town of Katamatite, he began his career as a forward and booted 23 goals in his second season.

Soon after he went behind the ball, where he is best remembered for the intercept mark that turned an elimination final against Essendon in the Kangaroos' favour.

Having experienced persistent foot injuries, Wright called time at the conclusion of the 2019 season with 136 games and 58 goals to his name.

He has filled the position left vacant by Tash Hardy, who departed to take up an opportunity with expansion team Essendon.

The AFLW program's coaching group will also be bolstered by the addition of VFLW senior coach, Steph Binder, who has been promoted to AFLW Player Performance Manager.

Binder's elevation follows an impressive first season at the helm of the Roos' VFLW side. She will also retain senior coaching responsibilities for VFLW.

Binder will lead the AFLW development program and be supported by new development coaches, Noni Taylor and Nick Devereux. Taylor and Devereux will occupy newly created roles within the program.

Taylor joins the women's program with a wealth of experience. A performance analyst for the senior men's program at North Melbourne, she has also worked with the Western Jets in the NAB League.

Devereux joins after his time as midfield coach of the club’s VFLW program, and boasts coaching experience in the talent pathway program.

"We are very excited to enhance our coaching department with the inclusion of four new coaches," Head of Women's Football Nathan Hrovat told North Media.

"It's great to have Wrighty back at Arden Street. Equally, it's super exciting to have Steph move into a new role in our program where she will be well supported by Noni and Nick.

"Our intention is to continue providing the best resourcing for our playing group, facilitating opportunities for them to develop into the best footballers and people they can possibly be."
