The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have signed Zoe Savarirayan as a rookie for the next AFLW season.

The Wesley College student has been an outstanding soccer player through junior level, playing for the Bulleen Lions in the National Premier League and Wesley Firsts Soccer.  The 17-year-old only recently made the transition to AFL, having played as a mid-forward in her first season with Wesley.

Savarirayan was identified by former North Melbourne player development manager Brent Thiele, who promptly made the club aware of her potential.

At 166cm, the club were impressed with her athletic capabilities, skill level and clean hands.

"Zoe is a fantastic story, and we are so excited to have her join us at North," AFLW list and performance manager Rhys Harwood said.

"After going to watch her play with Wesley, we quickly knew Zoe was a player we were keen to work with. Wesley have done a fantastic job with her football development, and wider sporting programs.

"Zoe has shown great scope ball in hand, as well as defensive intent in her games with Wesley. For someone who has played only a handful of games, she is well progressed with her ball use, and decision making.

"We couldn't have been more impressed with Zoe and her family after spending some time with them at the club. They are an exceptional family, and we are thrilled to have them join our North family."
