Brent Harvey had much to prove during what was a tough final training session before the player’s mid-season break.
Under the watchful eyes of caretaker coach Darren Crocker and club doctor Con Mitropoulos, the captain tested out his elbow just 7 weeks after dislocating it in round 5 against Richmond.
The 31 year old is hoping to be available for North Melbourne’s round 13 clash with the Bulldogs at the MCG.
‘Boomer’ signalled his intentions mid-way through the session when he laid a heavy tackle on draftee Nathan O’Keefe putting his once delicate limb to the test. He tied the young Kangaroo up and came out of it with flying colours.
“It was full training today with the aim for him to test the stability of his elbow through tackling and landing in game-like conditions, thankfully he reported to me that he was not sore at all after the hit-out,” said Mitropoulos.
With his first full-contact training run out of the way, Harvey had yet another test to pass before he could afford a smile. This time it would be with his specialist Greg Hoy to get the all-clear.
Kangaroos.com.au is pleased to exclusively report the consultation went just as Harvey had planned with the green light given for his return to football.
“Everyone is very relieved especially Brent. He’s shown a great deal of commitment throughout his rehabilitation and has done everything required to get back onto the field. If there was a game this week, he would be a certainty,” Mitropoulos added.
Harvey will have his elbow strapped and padded for the match against the Bulldogs and only has three more training sessions left before his much anticipated return.

Also likely to be named in the team on June 28 is draftee Liam Anthony after a handful of solid performances at VFL level. He’s making his way back from stress fractures in his foot earlier in the year and is yet to debut.
